      Internation aids awareness day

So my school always throws these stupid thing about AIDS awareness; To be honest im pissed, disgusted and feel my school is full of ignorant. Why? because yes, people do die from AIDS, i know my dad used to be an AIDS counselor and back when AIDS just started he was doing his residence and treated many cases. What annoys me is that my school throws a party in honor of this day, i mean wtf people died, people are dying and they throw a party in honor of it; worst part is the party was just a dumb excuse for the kids at special education and lower classes to be excused from class and have fun.

Thats the first thing, the second thing is why do they keep pushing the thing with AIDS, we know it kills, and for those that don't follow medical studies, viruses get weaker generation by generation, AIDS is already at that stage that it is phasing out, little by little it turns weaker, humans grow more "tolerant" to it. Also it is isnt like you just die once you get AIDS, if you take good care of yourself and take your meds you will live happily until your 70's or 80's. Yes the death toll is massive for AIDS, but this happens in nation where the medicine is handed out, but due to customs they are not allowed to take that medicine, cultures sucha s AFRICA and INDIA, where AIDS has its biggest death toll.

Third thing, what about the other diseases that kill more people, maybe this isnt know to many but there was a wide outbreak of malaria throughout the world last year and it continues today, killing more people than AIDS, there are other killers out there such as cancer, factories in undeveloped countries that go about with unregulated facilities that are basically feeding carcinogens into its workers, what about them?

I think that yes aids is a serious disease but there are far worse epidemics going around that to say aids is a big killer, there is treatment for it, it can help reduce the virus strength, the death toll of AIDS patients is large due to the fact that they were infected by the early far stronger stages. I know people that AIDS, they are living fine and are 50 years old, people that caught it back when they were in their 20's and 30's in the 1980's.

Some of you might think i am heartless, some of you dont. But i was originally pissed at the attitude we take towards it; AIDS is super deadly there is no cure you will die. And far worse to do awareness they throw a DANCE FOR LIFE, what does that achieve? nothing.

This leads to my next point, you must certainly notice that cancer patients and groups are far larger than AIDS groups, you rarely get an AIDS walk, people with cancer know they must raise money for research and know that cancer is far more deadly than AIDS.

Hopefully i did not offend anyone by this, as i know there are people with AIDS and HIV+ that are fighting hard, but i am not going after them, i go after the way we see the disease and how overly biased we are towards it, i really hate this statement "YOU HAVE SEX, YOU GET AIDS, NO CURE, YOU DIE" thats what they say in schools, more of a fear tactic than a truly educational one.

Anybody else besides me go to Starbucks today in support of this event? For every select coffee they sold (In a red cup) they are donating a certain amount of $ to fund finding a cure for AIDs. If you didn't get out there's still time to get out there and grab a cup from your local Starbucks. Cheap way to help the cause and stop the skinnies from spreading that shit like wildfire.

CD... you definitely earned your 1 post count this time lol

I'm with you a bit on this. Cancer is something that you can't protect yourself against. Cancer can attack anyone at any age. HIV, can be prevented if you protect yourself. If you get HIV, you were more then likely having too much of a good time to think about protection and now you are paying the consequences. If you get cancer, it wasn't because you didn't protect yourself, you were just "chosen".

I do believe HIV is more dangerous though. With cancer, you can't pass it on to anyone else. While with HIV, if you have the virus in you and you don't know you do and you go around sleeping with other people unprotected, then you're killing a lot of people.

There needs to be a cure for both though. I find it hard to believe that we can land a person on the moon, but we can't find a cure for HIV and cancer. A lot of people say the government doesn't really want to find a cure. These two diseases keep hospitals full and medications in high demand, meaning jobs and profits for a lot of people out there.
